Leaping for a Cause: My 300ft Bungee Jump Adventure and Fundraising Journey
Following an earlier cancellation due to extremely bad weather, 25 August 2024 finally arrived. The day of the long awaited 300 feet bungee jump.
Myself & Georgina travelled down to Windsor, Bray Park, where the event was to be held.
The crane was set up and already being used. I booked in & to my surprise found myself well within the jump weight, so that was a good start. Then a brief wait for others in front of me, then the call to come forward.
The harness was secured, checked & double checked. The ankle ’shackles’ attached …… just a small amount of velcro wrapped around the ankles.
A further wait for a few others to jump. A lady in front of me was on her bucket list, aged 30! The Pyramids, wing walk, parachute jump …… all completed. Who would’ve thought that this bungee jump for her was to be a bit close to the floor.
She managed to swing to one side where the crew members managed to drag her away from a concrete wall; This wasn’t helping me, but not deterring me.
I entered the cage & the signal to lift was given. In no time I was at 300 feet. What a view. Absolutely no nerves or worries with me. I was keen to go. The ‘jump master’ attached a harness to the cage. Once completed, he said, one, two, three, jump.’I was gone on three.
This now completes four jumps for me; a 140 feet forward from Larpool Viaduct October 2023. Then in May 2024, ‘for the enjoyment of it all.’ I found the club had an event at Box End Water Park. Without hesitation, a 160 feet forward, followed by a 160 feet backwards. (I have to say, backwards is a strong second favourite.) Then the 300 feet Windsor.
Funds raised are to be split equally between Cancer Research & The MCF. Approximately £2800.00 raised inc Gift Aid.
You may recall that this event all started for the 2026 festival which sadly coincided with my brothers bone cancer treatment. It is only fair that I give you a brief update on John. All considered, he is doing well. However, he has recently been called back to Addenbrookes. The news that followed was the necessity for operations to remove his gall bladder & kidney stones. So my thoughts are with him & his family.
My thanks go to all that helped support this great cause, whether by donations or in any other. All appreciated …. I cannot thank you enough.
David
